Mini paintings

Here's two paintings done last fall for school. I was more focused on the surroundings than the soldiers themselves. I created some extreme texture in the 2nd panel using an underlying medium, had a really great effect.
These are close to life size, slightly smaller. I was trying to see how my style would look small.

"Soldiers #1"

"Soldiers #2"

And this last piece is one of a few paintings I've been doing on cardboard in my spare time. Took around 5-10 minutes. Just to experiment with acrylic and see what happens. I just noticed all three of these have to do with guns, not intentional, I swear.

All paintings are for sale. Contact me for more info. jerrythethird@gmail.com

'An Eye Can Threaten like a Loaded and Levelled Gun'

30"x40"
Biggest painting to date. I started to get some recognition thanks to this piece and it's the starting point of everything I'm working on now. There are quite a few pieces in progress, so hopefully I get them done before my show at the Merchandise Mart, April 10th. Get full details here
If you're in Chicago definately come by, it's one night only.

I promised didn't I?

Enough of the mumbo jumbo apologies. Art is what belongs here. Ill keep up with this more now because I'm wrapping up my 4 years at the American Academy of Art. I've made some great paintings lately and feel I've what figured out what I've been trying to do for so long. I'll be posting these new works little by little in the weeks to come.

I'll post two from where I left off, last spring/summer. The 2nd painting is when it 'clicked' for me. Palette, way of laying down the paint, it was what I saw for so long but couldn't quite produce yet. Now I'm there, and already looking for ways to evolve it.

Butt Painting
. Square Foot. Fun, made with a palette knife.

Innocent Victim #1.
Oil on Canvas. 11"x14"

There's much more to come!

Uh-oh.

Yeah I didn't mean to neglect, I actually just remember I had this. My bad.

So I think it's time to get this thing rolling again. Maybe not weekly but better than the start I have so far. I've finally begun to realize, among many things, that if I dont start doing all the things I say I'm gonna do, they'll never get done. This is my life.

So that's a square foot piece from last fall done for school. And then a 12" x 24" piece done in Figure Painting this spring.

So here's to many more updates...

Yet another thing I must worry about.

Nah, actually I think a blog is probably whats best for me. Not just to show my art (because Deviant-art is feeling amateur-ish) but to show other people's pieces or talk about other things that inspire my art. I hope to update this weekly or maybe several times a week.

That piece above is by Jenny Saville and I find her work to be fucking spectacular. The way she lays down paint is similar to how I can see my own work looking.

I've been forced to think alot more about my art lately. Not just what picture I'm about to make, but what I plan on doing with it, for instance, is it going to be in a gallery? How much is it worth? Is it even good enough to sell? Can I let a piece go into someone else's possession?

I feel like I've learned and grown so much over the last 4 months. I try not make things so precious, especially my art. Art's supposed to be an expression, how well thought out are expressions most of the time? I'm letting things be more spontaneous and it feels good to let go and just stop thinking sometimes.

This was so fun, and such a struggle to paint. This was my first painting of the school year and I am very surprised by it.

I'd like to ask other people to leave comments or suggestions letting me know what you think about pretty much anything. Is it confusing if I put someone else's art and my own in the same post? Let me know...
